An arctic air mass the moved in behind this week’s midwest blizzard is pushing freezing temperatures down to the gulf coast.  A strong jet stream flowing over the arctic air is creating a slippery mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.  This storm bears watching as it is forecast to move slowly north along the Carolina coast Friday.  Moisture from this system will arrive in Baltimore Friday night, probably between 11:00pm and 2:00am.  The precipitation may start as freezing rain before changing to rain for most of Saturday.  As the system departs Saturday afternoon, colder air may change the rain to a period of snow or snow showers.
