Arctic Chill For The Weekend

Surface map late Thursday night

The fast moving area of low pressure that will produce a light snowfall around northern Maryland in the pre-dawn hours of Friday will reach New England by Friday afternoon.  As the storm strengthens it will help pull an arctic cold front through Maryland.  The arctic air had invaded the upper midwest by late Thursday evening with temperatures down to -35° in northwest Minnesota and 8° in Chicago.  Temperatures around Baltimore will start a downward trend just after sunrise as strong northwest winds kick in.  Gusts of 35-40 mph will drive wind chills into the low teens by late afternoon.  High temperatures over the weekend will likely not break out of the 20s with low temperatures in the low teens.  The arctic air mass will  hang around into early next week when another low pressure system is expected to develop to our south.  By Tuesday of next week a coastal storm may be moving into the cold with the possibility of snow in the mid Atlantic.

  1. Every time it snows is not a storm. How about more honest diction? If we get mire than 4 inches, say snow developed into a storm. Sick of the hype!
