Thursday morning radar shows snow spreading east

Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories cover the storm track

Forecast storm track across Virginia toward New England

A developing area of low pressure that stretches from the western Ohio valley to east Texas is pushing snow toward the mid Atlantic.  Light to moderate snow is now falling from the Ohio/West Virginia border (Parkersburg, WV reporting snow as of 10am) south to northern Arkansas.  This low will continue to organize and move northeast to a position east of Ocean City, MD by 3:00 a.m Friday, then intensify as it tracks toward Cape Cod later Friday morning.

Forecast snowfall Thursday night and Friday

On that track a quick 1-3″ of snow will fall across much of northern Maryland tonight.

Temperatures Friday morning around 5,000 feet above sea level

Temperatures Sunday morning around 5,000 feet above sea level

18,000 feet above sea level Sunday morning

Behind the storm a blast of arctic air is forecast to surge south with the coldest temperatures of the season so far arriving in the eastern United States this weekend.  With the arctic air in place, the stage will be set for another east coast snowstorm developing Monday and Tuesday of next week.
