Stormy Thursday?

Summer-like weather has come to the Mid Atlantic region this week. Temperature records in Baltimore were broken on Monday and tied on Tuesday with unseasonably warm temperatures continuing on Wednesday. It looks like summertime type thunderstorms are likely to break out over the area on Thursday as a cold front in the Midwest moves eastward.

The satellite image above shows storms lined up along the front just east of the Mississippi River on Wednesday evening.

The forecast map above shows the expected position of the front and the resulting rain area early Thursday afternoon.Conditions will be favorable for the development of a few strong thunderstorms.

The chart above from the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center outlines the area for potential severe storm development on Thursday. Most of Maryland falls in the “slight risk” area.

Considerably cooler air will follow the front. High temperatures on Friday will be in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees and Saturday morning lows are likely to be in the mid to upper 30s in many areas.
