Some Climate Stats From 2009

Over the next couple weeks it will be interesting to look at the climate statistics from 2009 and see where the year ranks in various categories.  Based on the unofficial preliminary stats posted yesterday, here are a few quick numbers:

Average annual temperature:  54.8

0.2 degrees above the “normal”, which is based on the 30 year average from 1971-2000

Coolest year since 2003 (53.9)

Ties for 6th coolest since 1980

7 months were cooler than normal:
Jan., Mar., Jun., Jul., Sep., Oct., Dec.

5 months were warmer than normal:
Feb., Apr., May, Aug., Nov.

Total annual precipitation: 55.57″

13.63″ above the “normal”

6th wettest on record

Total annual snowfall: 31.7″

13.5″ above normal
