U.S. Temperatures Below Average in July

July 2009 temperatures

Heat made the headlines in several western locations, but with Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania recording their coolest July on record and Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Michigan each having their second coolest July on record, while Minnesota and Tennessee had their third coolest July on record, the lower 48 states as a whole were 0.8 degrees below average for the month.  Precipitation in the lower 48 contiguous states was near normal.  Complete report from NOAA:  July Climate Summary.
