This newest satellite in known as GOES-N Prime. Once stabilized in a geostationary orbit it will be renamed GOES-13.

This satellite will join GOES-10(west satellite images), GOES-11(in a storage orbit) and GOES-12(east satellite images) in providing weather and science research data as well as instrumentation for search and rescue missions.

I misspoke on the Noon News Friday when I stated the the satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The launch was from Vandenburg Air Force Base in California. The satellite was carried into orbit on a Delta II Space Launch Vehicle.
