Late Season Tropical Weather

Two storms are keeping the latter part of the 2008 hurricane season active.

The visible satellite image above shows two storms being monitored by the Tropical Prediction Center.

  • Omar is a Tropical Storm in the eastern Caribbean. The storm is expected to track to the north and northeast over the next few days, passing over Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands into the Atlantic. Omar may ultimately reach hurricane strength over the Atlantic.
  • Tropical Depression 16 is over the western Caribbean and is forecast to move in a westerly direction, moving along the Honduras coast and making landfall in Guatemala/Belize. The storm is expected to reach Tropical Storm strength and would be named Paloma.
