Snow Season Begins

As of Thursday, Oct. 9th, it has been 230 days since the last snowflake fell at Baltimore’s official weather station located at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. The last snowflake to fall around here was back on February 22nd when 0.6″ of snow accumulated at the airport. But as of today, snow season is back. I say this because now it is at least historically possible for snow to fall in Baltimore since it was on October 9, 1903 that our earliest recorded snowflakes were observed. And, on October 10, 1979 the earliest measurable snow in Baltimore was recorded as 0.3″ fell during the Orioles vs. Pirates World Series.

For snow lovers, however, this is all just theoretical as an unseasonably warm weather pattern is expected into early next week with high temperatures of 5 to 15 degrees above normal.
