Confirmed Tornado

The Baltimore/Washington National Weather Service Forecast Office located in Sterling, VA near Dulles Airport sent a team of meteorologists to inspect damage from Wednesday’s severe thunderstorms. As of late Thursday the team found evidence of at least one tornado touchdown, with the possibility of more pending further inspection of sites in northern Virginia. The confirmed tornado was in Calvert Co. near Chesapeake Beach. The storm is estimated to have had 85 mph winds, tracked 1.5 miles and was about 75 yards wide. On the Enhanced Fujita Scale is ranked EF-0, which is the weakest tornado on the scale. The complete damage report of the Chesapeake Beach tornado can be found here: Storm Damage Report.
