From 70s To Snow In 7 Days

tt_developing_storm_jan15

Last Tuesday we set a record as the temperature soared to 70 at BWI-Marshall. Seven days later the high at the airport today was just 38 as gusty winds swept into the area with snow showers. Welcome to the mid Atlantic in winter! A light dusting of snow was reported at a few locations as the snow showers blew through. Gaithersburg in Montgomery Co. reported 0.3″ while Hollywood in St. Mary’s Co. measured 0.5″. More wintry weather could be on the way for Thursday. Low pressure is developing in the Gulf of Mexico and this low is forecast to track north along the eastern seaboard. Early indications point to snow and sleet developing Thursday afternoon as the storm pushes moisture into the cold air over Maryland. The snow and sleet will likely change to rain Thursday night before tapering off early Friday. Adjustments to the forecast will be made as more data becomes available.
