Felix Crashes Ashore…2nd Cat. 5 Landfall of 2007

Hurricane Felix has made landfall on the Nicaraguan coast as a category 5 storm with sustained winds estimated at 160 mph. 2007 is now the first year on record with two landfalling category 5 storms in the Atlantic basin (Dean hit Mexico last month). Satellite images show the eye of Felix crossing the coast 10 miles north/northeast of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua around 7:45 am EDT. The storm will weaken as it tracks inland, but torrential amounts of rain can be expected along its path with upwards of 20″ possible in Nicaragua and Honduras.
