Monday Dean Pictures

Hurricane Dean continues to plow through the Caribbean toward the Yucatan. Below are some interesting satellite pictures of the storm.

Notice how large and well defined the eye is as the storm approaches category 5 status.

An ensemble of computer models points to Dean crossing the Yucatan and continuing to the west coast of the Gulf of Mexico, well south of Texas.

The present track forecast could still result in outer rainbands and high surf from the storm reaching south Texas.

Forecasters in Miami are also watching a tropical wave in the Atlantic.

The cluster of thunderstorms labled #1 in the above picture could become better organized if upper level winds diminish. If this wave were to develop it would be a different situation than Dean. The position is farther north and the resulting storm would likely be more Atlantic oriented.

Sea surface temperatures are adequately warm for additional development.
