Will we see a "Snow Bowl" this year?

With the Ravens earning a bye in the first round of the playoffs they won’t have to worry about weather conditions this weekend, but the weather could play a role in determining who the Ravens will meet next weekend.

The Chiefs and Colts will be under the RCA Dome in Indianapolis (wimps!), so no weather factor there. But there is another AFC game to watch; the Jets travel to Foxboro to play the Patriots Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. In recent years we’ve seen some interesting “Snow Bowl” playoff games in New England but this time around much warmer air is dominating the entire eastern seaboard, so any precipitation would be rain. Early indications point to dry weather in Foxboro through early evening. If the game doesn’t go into overtime, they should get by with increasing clouds, temperatures in the 40s and west winds around 10 mph.

In the NFC both games this weekend will be exposed to the elements. At Quest Field in Seattle the Seahawks will take on the Cowboys Saturday at 5pm PST (8pm EST). Occasional showers will be possible throughout the game with temperatures in the 40s and winds from the south at 10-15 mph. The Giants will be in Philadelphia for a Sunday afternoon game. The same storm that looks like it will get to New England after the Jets/Patriots game ends, may begin to push into Philly toward the end of their game. But temperatures in southeast PA will be relatively mild with game time readings in the 50s and winds from the east at 5-10 mph.

So, no “Snow Bowls” for the first round of playoff action, but what will greet the Ravens when they jump back into action next weekend? Stay tuned…
