It’s That Time Of Year
January 19, 2008

Cold air has been building up in the arctic regions in Canada and it will be spilling into the lower 48 states this weekend.
This is the time of year when temperatures get their coldest. January 19 in 1994 was one of the coldest ever recorded in the region.

The arctic air that will be moving in [...]

January 19, 2008

Just two days after a storm moved north from the Gulf of Mexico to the North Carolina outer banks and up the coast to Maine, a second Gulf storm is forming. This second storm is expected to stay farther south and east producing a threat of snow deep into the south. As of [...]

January 18, 2008

Although we’ve had just two significant snowstorms so far this winter, the December-January snowfall for BWI-Marshall is running a little above normal through January 18th. With 7.2″ from the two storms this winter, we are 1.6″ ahead of normal and well ahead of last winter’s pace.

Seasonal Snowfall Above Normal So Far
January 18, 2008

A sampling of snowfall reports from around the region show the wide range of conditions experienced in central and eastern Maryland Thursday. From 70s To Snow In 7 Days
January 15, 2008

Last Tuesday we set a record as the temperature soared to 70 at BWI-Marshall. Seven days later the high at the airport today was just 38 as gusty winds swept into the area with snow showers. Welcome to the mid Atlantic in winter! A light dusting of snow was reported at a [...]

Coastal Storm Clips Maryland, Smacks New England
January 14, 2008

Low pressure east of Long Island, NY this morning passed far enough off the coast to just brush Maryland with rain showers overnight. A few scattered rain or snow showers will continue across Maryland today as the storm pulls away and a weather system in the Great Lakes slides in our direction. Travelers [...]

January 13, 2008

A coastal storm is developing. The energy that will help the storm develop will move across the southeastern states overnight and a low pressure center will take form off the Carolina coast.
The low is expected to move northeastward along the coast on Sunday and pass to the east of Mid Atlantic beaches. The final word [...]

Coastal Storm Close Enough?
January 11, 2008

The Friday runs of computer models trying to get a handle on a possible coastal storm late this weekend seem to be converging on a track that takes the storm too far east for a direct hit on Baltimore, but close enough for at least some wintry precipitation. The image posted above shows the [...]

Coastal Storm Uncertainties
January 11, 2008

The latest round of computer model runs out of NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Prediction has not resolved any of the uncertainty with regard to a potential coastal storm Sunday night. The U.S. models seemed to be coming in line with those produced in Europe and Canada after the early morning and midday runs [...]
